Only 132 surrendered convicts are included in BuCor list — PNP

MANILA, Philippines — More than 100 surrendered convicts freed through the Good Conduct Time Allowance (GCTA) law are included in the official Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) list of 1,914 heinous crime convicts, Philippine National Police (PNP) said Wednesday.

The PNP said only 132 out of 523 convicts who yielded to police stations nationwide are included in the BuCor list.

Of this number, Mimaropa region had the highest number of convicts with 18 followed by Central Visayas with 15.

Here is the breakdown for surrendered convicts listed in BuCor:

Ilocos Region – 12

Cagayan Valley – 7

Central Luzon – 8

Calabarzon – 10

Bicol Region – 5

Western Visayas – 7

Eastern Visayas – 7

Zamboanga Peninsula – 8

Northern Mindanao – 4

Soccsksargen – 4

Caraga Region – 6

Cordillera Administrative Region – 14

The PNP said those who surrendered were convicted of rape, murder, robbery with homicide, robbery with rape, dangerous drugs, homicide, murder and robbery, attempted rape with homicide, murder, homicide, double frustrated murder and grave threats, parricide, car theft, robbery, rape with homicide, arson, kidnapping with murder, frustrated homicide, attempted rape and kidnapping.

Duterte gave the 1,914 heinous crime convicts who were believed to be erroneously released due to GCTA law 15 days to surrender or else they will be tagged as fugitives. The deadline is on Sept. 19 (Thursday). /muf
