Village official, attacker slain in Samar gunfight

TACLOBAN CITY –– Two persons, including a village official, were killed in a gunfight in Calbayog City, Samar on Thursday afternoon.

Reports reaching the Police Regional Office in Eastern Visayas based at the Camp Ruperto Kangleon, Palo in Leyte province, identified the village official as Simeon Tarrayo of Barangay Carmen of Calbayog.

The report said Tarrayo, 51, was traversing P-1 of Barangay Dagum on board his motorcycle at 4:56 p.m. when he was trailed by four persons aboard two separate motorcycles.

Two of the suspects then drew their guns and fired at the victim.

But Tarrayo, who also had a firearm, managed to retaliate and hit one of the suspects on the chest.

Investigators have yet to identify the suspects as well as the motive behind the killing of Tarrayo. /lzb
