SAN PEDRO CITY –– Three heinous crime convicts earlier released from prison surrendered to authorities in Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Quezon, police said on Thursday.

Their surrender was under President Duterte’s directive, amid controversies surrounding the Good Conduct Time Allowance (GCTA) that reduced sentences and allowed the early release of convicts.

In Batangas City, a 2006 rape convict went to the city police station around 5 p.m. Wednesday. According to a police report, he was released from the New Bilibid Prison in Muntinlupa City on September 30, 2016.

In Pakil, Laguna, a 1991 murder and rape convict turned himself in around noon Wednesday. He served his time at the Ihawig Prison and Penal Farm in Palawan province until he was released through the GCTA on December 21, 2018.

In Silang, Cavite, a convict sought help from village officials in Maguyam for his surrender to police around 8 a.m. Wednesday. He was convicted for two counts of murder, frustrated murder, and attempted murder on September 29, 1995. He was released from prison last July 10./lzb
