DOJ chief: Not more than 10 freed convicts surrendered after President’s order

MANILA, Philippines—Not more than 10 freed convicts have surrendered after  President Rodrigo Duterte’s gave a 15-day deadline Wednesday night.

Department of Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra disclosed this during  Thursday’s resumption of the Senate committee on justice’s hearing on the  early release of heinous crimes convicts.

“Confidentially, meron but we can’t mention…” Guevarra initially told the committee, responding to Senator Panfilo Lacson.

But Lacson said there was no need to identify the surrenderees as he just wanted to find out who had already availed of the President’s offer to freed  convicts to surrender so their good conduct time allowance would be computed again.

“That’s a good indication. That’s a good development,” Lacson said. “Pwede bang malaman kung mga ilan more or less, 10, 20, 30?”
