MANILA, Philippines — Should dismissed Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) Director General Nicanor Faeldon be reappointed in the government? Senator Sonny Angara hopes that is not the case.
“Sana wag naman. Wag naman sana kasi if he wanted to serve, he served already and kung saan siya pumunta medyo nagkakagulo e so mas maganda siguro wag na lang,” Angara said in an interview over ANC when asked if Faeldon should be reappointed.
(I hope not. I hope not because if he wanted to serve, he served already and whenever he goes it seems trouble follows him so it is better he is not reappointed.)
President Rodrigo Duterte on Wednesday night fired Faeldon following issues surrounding the implementation of the good conduct time allowance (GCTA) law, which allowed for the release of nearly 2,000 heinous crime convicts.

Before serving in the BuCor, Faeldon served as the chief of the Bureau of Customs where he resigned after a P6.4-billion shipment of crystal meth managed to slip into the country in 2017.
“I think this is his third position in the government na so maraming nagku-kuwestiyon bakit nandyan pa siya. But I think in this case, if you talk about this case and what’s happening over [Antonio] Sanchez, I think tama yung decision ni Presidente, tama yung tanggalin na siya,” Angara said.
It was Sanchez’ possible early release under the GCTA law that resulted in public uproar, prompting investigations by the Senate and the House of Representatives. Sanchez was convicted of the rape-slay of University of the Philippines – Los Banos student Eileen Sarmenta and the murder of her companion Allan Gomez.
“If there are any cases that should be filed then I think the authorities should look into that. Sa ngayon wala pa naman akong nakikita. Unless, they discover some sort of bribery,” Angara said.
“Sabi nga ni Senate President [Vicente Sotto III], he’s hearing a lot of things na freedom is for sale. So if they find any witness who can testify that he accepted money for this then he can be prosecuted for bribery,” he added.
Aside from Angara, several senators on Wednesday night also backed Duterte’s dismissal of Faeldon. /jpv
