State of calamity declared in 4 Davao City villages

DAVAO CITY –– The City Council here on Thursday declared four barangays under a state of calamity following heavy flash flood Wednesday evening, August 28, that affected thousands of residents.

During a special session on August 29, the City Council approved the calamity declaration for barangays Los Amigos, Tugbok Proper, Talomo, and Wangan.

With the declaration, the city government will allot P50 million from the local government’s Quick Response Fund to help the heavily affected barangays.

The flood caught many by surprise.

A localized thunderstorm around 4 p.m. on Wednesday brought heavy downpour in the villages of Los Amigos, Tugbok, Catalunan Pequeño, Talomo, Sto. Niño, Matina Crossing, and Mintal here.

Responders are calling for donations such as canned goods, used clothes, sanitary and hygiene kits, bed sheets, pillows, and mats which can be delivered to the Filipino-Chinese Firefighters Foundation in Bajada.

The City Social Services and Development Office also called for donations that may be dropped at the City Hall./lzb
