14 more areas placed under Signal No. 1 as ‘Jenny’ nears

MANILA, Philippines – Fourteen more areas / provinces, including Metro Manila were placed under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) No.1  as Tropical Depression Jenny nears land, the state weather bureau said Tuesday.

Aside from Metro Manila, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said the 13 other areas under Signal No.1 are Cavite, Laguna, Pampanga, Bulacan, Camarines Sur, Camarines Norte, La Union, Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, Tarlac, Zambales and Bataan as of 4 a.m.

Pagasa earlier raised Signal No. 1 over Cagayan, Isabela, Quirino, Nueva Vizcaya, Apayao, Abra, Kalinga, Mountain Province, Ifugao, Benguet, Aurora, Nueva Ecija, eastern portion of Pangasinan, northern portion of Quezon including Polillo Island and Catanduanes.

Pagasa said that “Jenny” may make landfall in Aurora either Tuesday night or early Wednesday morning.

In its 4 a.m. weather bulletin, Pagasa said “Jenny” slightly accelerated and was last spotted 525 kilometers east of Daet, Camarines Norte.

“Jenny” also packed maximum sustained winds of 55 kilometers per hour (kph), and gustiness of up to 70 kph.

The tropical storm was also seen moving west at 25 kph.

Pagasa said that the tropical depression is less likely to intensify into a tropical storm before making landfall.

The Bicol region, Samar provinces, Quezon, Bulacan, Nueva Ecija, Aurora, Nueva Vizcaya, Quirino, Isabela and Cagayan will experience intermittent to frequent moderate to heavy rains.

Meanwhile, light to moderate with intermittent heavy rains are expected in Metro Manila, the rest of Luzon and Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, Northern Mindanao, and the Bangsamoro region. /gsg
