MANILA, Philippines–The Judicial and Bar Council (JBC) has extended the application, nomination and acceptance for the Supreme Court (SC) chief justice post to Sept. 2.
Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra, ex-officio member of the JBC, said the extension was made “to invite more applicants.”
Currently, four SC associate justices are vying for the high court’s top post and they are Associate Justices Diosdado Peralta, Estela Perlas-Bernabe, Andres Reyes Jr. and Jose Reyes Jr.
The chief justice post will become vacant on Oct. 18 upon the mandatory retirement of Chief Justice Lucas Bersamin. /jpv
