MANILA, Philippines – Former president Benigno C. Aquino III skipped the commemoration of his father’s 36th death anniversary because he was flu-stricken, his spokesperson explained on Thursday.
“He was unable to attend the commemoration as he was down with flu. He is recovering at home. It’s nothing serious,” Aquino’s spokesperson, Atty. Abigail Valte told INQUIRER.net in a text message.
Valte issued the clarification after Aquino’s sister, Kris, said that the former president was not able to attend the event because he was “not okay”, causing people to speculate on his condition.
“I was told to not give many details. Actually, I was told to say: ‘Sabihin mo na lang hindi [ako] sumipot dahil nandito ka,” Kris said at the Manila Memorial Park in Parañaque City on Wednesday.
“But I want you to know the truth and with me, you get the truth. So, he’s not okay. I’m not at liberty to say what’s wrong with him because that’s up to him,” she added. / gsg
