8 killed in Antipolo road accident

MANILA, Philippines—At least eight people were killed and five others seriously injured when a cargo truck went out of control and swept through a parked jeep and several houses Thursday in Antipolo City, police said.

The truck, bearing plate number RFD 594, plowed through several houses along Sumulong Highway, Barangay Mambugan in Antipolo City around 11:30 a.m., said Philippine National Police spokesman Chief Superintendent Agrimero Cruz Jr.

Cruz Jr. said that the truck figured in an accident with an owner-type jeep before hitting the houses.

Senior Superintendent Manuel Prieto, Rizal provincial director, said the driver might have lost control of the vehicle because of failed brakes.

The victims were rushed to the nearest hospital for treatment, Cruz said.
