Village chief slain inside house in Northern Samar

CATARMAN, Northern Samar –– A village chief was killed inside his house by still unidentified perpetrators in the interior village of Rombang, in Laoang town, Northern Samar, on Monday evening.

Police investigation showed that four armed men barged into the house of Carmelito Baluyot, barangay Captain of Rombang, about 8 p.m. and fired at him.

Baluyot died on the spot. The perpetrators then fled on board a motorcycle.

The police had yet to determine the motive and the identities of the assailants.

Baluyot is the second village chief killed this month in Northern Samar.

On Aug. 1, Joselito Sayde, barangay chairman of Santander in Bobon town, was shot dead while on his way home to their village./lzb
