Endangered hawksbill turtle found dead in Bohol town

TAGBILARAN CITY, Bohol –– An endangered sea turtle, locally known as pawikan, was found dead in Jagna town, Bohol on Thursday morning.

Councilor Anthony Aniscal of Jagna said the lifeless juvenile hawksbill sea turtle was washed ashore around 6 a.m.

He said the turtle had no signs that it was intentionally killed.

It was buried as advised by the Municipal Agriculture Office.

Aniscal said Jagna is a breeding ground for sea turtles in the province.

The Biodiversity Management Bureau said persons proven to have harmed or killed endangered species would face charges for violation of the Wildlife Resources Conservation and Protection Act.
