MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine National Police – Anti-Kidnapping Group (PNP-AKG) rescued a Chinese national who was allegedly abducted by fellow Chinese men after failing to pay his debt.
PNP-AKG identified the victim as Haitao Li, 35, of Hubei Province in China.
Police received information from a Malaysian national about a Chinese man being held by fellow compatriots in New Port Boulevard Tower in Pasay City on Tuesday at 5 p.m.
PNP-AKG operatives then went to the area, rescued the victim and arrested the alleged abductors identified as Zhangpeng Xiong, 32, and Tian Fu Zhao, 34.
Lt. Col. Elmer Cereno, PNP-AKG spokesman, said they discovered that the suspects were offering to lend money to their victims in casinos. Cereno also noted that if the victims failed to pay their debts, the suspects would kidnap them.
