Elizabeth Zimmerman, Duterte’s ex-wife skipping Sona, too

MANILA, Philippines – President Rodrigo Duterte’s former wife Elizabeth Zimmerman will not grace the Chief Executive’s fourth State of the Nation Address at the Batasang Pambansa in Quezon City on Monday.

Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio, who is also not attending the Sona since she is on medical leave, confirmed her mother’s absence to INQUIRER.net.

This is the first time that the Davao City mayor and her mother will skip the President’s Sona.

Duterte-Carpio said he would just watch her father’s Sona from her mother’s home in Davao City.

“I will watch the Sona with my mother,” she said in a text message.

Her brother, Vice Mayor Sebastian “Baste” Duterte is also skipping the Sona.

“Yes, VM Baste is acting mayor now. For the next 60 days, he will be busy,” she said.

Asked why her mother won’t be attending the Sona, she said, “My mother is taking care of my children. I am on leave.” /gsg
