LP divided in House, 7 to join majority

MANILA, Philippines — Seven members of the opposition Liberal Party (LP) in the House of Representatives will join the so-called “supermajority” in chamber, Caloocan Rep. Edgar Erice said Monday.

“Balanse ang LP… ang bilang ko 7-7-1,” Erice said in an interview, referring to seven LP members joining the majority bloc, seven joining the minority with only one staying as independent.

The district lawmaker said he would join the majority while Albay Rep. Edcel Lagman would stick as an independent lawmaker in the chamber dominated by pro-administration solons.

Asked if he thinks this would not compromise the unity of LP in the House, Erice answered: “Kaya nga balanse eh, iba ibang point of view.”

There are 18 LP House members in the 18th Congress. /muf
