DILG strips 189 mayors, governors of authority over police

MANILA, Philippines – One hundred eighty-nine mayors and governors nationwide were stripped of their supervisory powers over the local police, Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) said on Wednesday.

DILG Undersecretary and Spokesperson Jonathan Malaya said over radio dzMM that 181 mayors and eight governors were stripped of supervisory powers.

Malaya noted that the 189 local government officials were either linked to illegal drugs and terrorist groups or failed to effectively combat terrorism.

“Maraming dahilan, kung minsan dahil sa illegal na droga, yung iba failure to stop terrorism at yung iba supporting terrorist groups,” Malaya said. /gsg
