MANILA, Philippines — The low-pressure area (LPA) east of the Philippines has intensified into a tropical depression and was locally named “Dodong,” the state weather agency said Tuesday afternoon.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) earlier said that the tropical cyclone will not hit land.

It was last spotted 450 kilometers east of Aparri, Cagayan. Pagasa is expected to release more details on Dodong in its 5 p.m. weather bulletin. (Editor: Katherine G. Adraneda)
