Cop shot dead while driving his car in Cebu town

CEBU CITY –– A policeman was shot dead by unknown assailants on Thursday in Barangay Poblacion, Cordova town.

Police Chief Master Sergeant Deogenes Carrillo, the acting deputy chief of the Cordova Police Station, was driving his car on his way home to Barangay Punta Engaño in Lapu-Lapu City past 10 a.m. when two men on board a motorcycle shot him several times.

Police Lt. Col. Eloveo Marquez, chief of Cebu Provincial Investigation and Detective Management Branch, said they were looking into all possible angles behind the killing.

“We learned that he has a lending business. There was a possibility that someone was mad at him,” he said.

Marquez said there were also reports that Carillo was allegedly involved in the illegal drugs trade although they still had to validate it.
