LUCENA CITY –– Senator-elect Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go assures Filipinos that President Duterte’s foremost interest was to secure and protect the welfare of his countrymen.

“Rest assured na uunahin ni President Duterte ang kapakanan ng mga Filipino fishermen (Rest assured that President Duterte would place the welfare of the Filipino fishermen first),” Go said, after distributing relief goods and cash assistance to fire victims in a village here on Wednesday.

Go made the statement after President Duterte drew flak from several legislators and fishermen victims after downplaying the Recto Bank incident saying it was just “a little maritime accident.”

He said the president was looking at the bigger picture and encouraged the people to just wait for the result of the investigation.

Go vowed that the culprits behind the maritime incident would be punished.

He vowed to help not just the 22 Mindoro—based fishermen victims of the sea mishap but all aggrieved fisherfolk.
