2 cops hurt as minibus rams police desk in Pangasinan

DAGUPAN CITY — Two policemen undergoing field training were hurt on Tuesday when a wayward minibus crashed into a police assistance desk at Rosales town in Pangasinan province, police said on Wednesday.

Pat. Vangeline Sacla and Pat. Allen Sapitula were immediately taken to a hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

The minibus also rammed and damaged a police vehicle, which was parked near the assistance desk.

Police said Sacla and Sapitula, along with two other policemen, were manning the highway assistance desk at 2:50 p.m. when they saw the minibus speeding towards them as it moved down the southern approach of the Don Teofilo Sison Bridge at Barangay Carmen West in Rosales.

The minibus driver, Jonathan Cacal, 48, later told investigators that his vehicle developed a mechanical problem, causing it to swerve to the right side of the road.

Police said Cacal had promised to shoulder the cost for the repair of the police vehicle and the assistance desk and the medical expenses of the two injured policemen. (EditorLeti Boniol)
