2 dead, 1 hurt in Quezon road mishaps

LUCENA CITY –- A traveler and a bystander were killed in two separate road accidents in Guinayangan and General Nakar towns in Quezon province on Monday, police said.

Marion Lansona, 56, a passenger aboard an Isuzu multicab that was negotiating a curve section, died when the multicab driver, Mario Manalo, lost control of the vehicle and consequently fell into a shallow cliff in Barangay San Antonio in Guinayangan around 1 p.m., a report from Quezon police said Tuesday.

They were rushed to Guinayangan Medicare Community Hospital at the town center but Lansona died while undergoing treatment.

Police said the driver tried to evade collision with an oncoming vehicle but he lost control of his steering wheel.

In General Nakar, Inocensio Astejada, 60, while sitting in the gutter of a concrete bridge, was accidentally bumped by a speeding tricycle in Barangay Banugao around 5:30 p.m.

Astejada suffered serious injuries and died while being taken to the nearest hospital, the police report said.

A witness told an investigator that the tricycle driver, Donan Eranista, tried to avoid hitting the victim but failed. (Editor: Leti Boniol)
