1 killed, 4 hurt in five-vehicle collision in Manila

MANILA, Philippines — A man was killed and four other persons were injured when a jeepney crashed into a van, a bus, and two motorcycles on Monday in Sampaloc, Manila.

According to the Manila Police District (MPD), the accident occurred at around 10:30 a.m. at the corner of Pureza Street and Ramon Magsaysay Boulevard in Sampaloc, Manila.

Police identified the deceased victim as Bienvenido Luha Jr., who was driving one of the motorcycles.

Initial investigation revealed that a jeepney, an Isuzu Jitney, was plying the Ramon Magsaysay Boulevard heading west when it sideswiped the left portion of the bus, simultaneously hitting the van and two motorcycles.

The collision resulted in the instant death of Luha.

The injured were identified as John Ly Espiritu, 26; Romeo Tolentino, 42; Nathaniel De Mesa, 44; and Fernando Florida, 39.

They were taken to the Philippine Orthopedic Center for treatment.

The body of the dead motorcycle driver was currently at the Archangel Funeral Homes.

Meanwhile, the driver of the jeepney, 49-year-old Dennis Falcotila, was brought to the MPD for investigation.

He is facing a case of reckless imprudence resulting in homicide with physical injuries and damage to property.
