Insurers 5, Van System make final of Power 40
THE Insurers and Van System drubbed separate semifinal foes to forge a finals showdown in the Power Forty-2011 Christmas basketball tournament at the Emilio Jaca Memorial gym in barangay Inayawan, Cebu City.
The Insurers dumped Allyn & Sons, 108-97 while Van System routed FC Fortune, 95-82.
The Insurers led in the first two periods behind Flor Yosores and John Tantay who gave the team a slim, 51-45 lead at the half then exploded with a, 36-26 run in the third to post its biggest lead of 16 points, 87-71, heading to the fourth quarter.
John Tantay and Flor Yosores led the Insurers with 21 points apiece while Wewe Cabrera and pointguard July Capala added 14 points each.
Joel Cañete and Cards Vernaiz paced Allyn & Sons with 26 and 17 points, respectively.
Meanwhile, Van System formalized its entry into the championship game with an emphatic, 13-point drubbing of FC Fortune, 95-82.
Former SIT slotman Jun Sumargo paced Van System with 26 points while Marcial Genzon, Kaka Cabatas and Danny Dayota combined for 46 points.
Gogo Fuentes and Dodong Piezas paced FC Fortune with 17 and 16 points, respectively.
The Insurers and Van System will battle for the crown in a winner-take-all finale slated this Tuesday, while FC Fortune and Allyn & Sons will play for third place.
