A father and son from South Carolina, USA, graduated at the same time from the same university.
Forty-nine-year-old Antonio Gathers and his son, 23-year-old Brandon, did not expect at first they would be graduating at the same time from the South Carolina State University, as per ABC News 4 on May 9. Antonio received his master’s degree in Rehabilitation Psychology and Brandon his bachelor’s degree in Business Management last May 10.
The two have been each other’s inspiration through school. As Brandon shared, his father was the perfect model of a father figure.
“He’s like my inspiration. He’s the perfect model of a black male father figure,” Brandon said in the report. “He’s a God-fearing man, he’s successful, he’s intelligent, he knows what he’s doing. He is just a great person in general.”
Antonio, meanwhile, said it was his son’s perseverance that got him going.
“He was an inspiration to me, just seeing his perseverance,” he said. “Doing other things, and having a full-time career, you kind of put yourself on the back burner. And it was just really important to me to get [this] degree to pursue another avenue in my life and in my career so that I could help people.” Cody Cepeda /ra
