A 6-year-old boy from Guizhou, China, was left running after his parents’ car when they forgot about him and left him at a rest stop.
The video of the boy’s chase circulated online and showed him unsuccessfully running after the car as it drove away from the service station.
As per Guizhou Television via The South China Morning Post on May 6, the boy was found by a kind motorist who brought him to a toll station where authorities were called.
A police officer nearby, identified as Zhang Yun, received a report of a couple who had lost their child while on his way to pick up the young boy.
“I thought it might be the same kid,” Zhang said in the report.
The parents arrived 30 minutes later and were recognized by their son. Their identities were verified by authorities before the boy was returned to them.
The incident has caused outcry from netizens on Chinese micro-blogging site Weibo. Some seemed in disbelief that the boy’s parents could forget about him, while others sympathized with him for being left alone.
“I can’t believe this news is true,” one said. “How careless are the parents to forget their own kid?”
“I feel heartache for this boy,” another was quoted as saying. “I can imagine how scared he was at that time!”
Another young boy was found alone on the road just last February in Chongqing, as per the report. The boy was found there by authorities patrolling a motorway and was thought to have gotten out of the car when his parents exchanged places in the driver’s seat. Cody Cepeda /ra
