President Duterte to join Evasco ‘miting de avance’ in Bohol

TAGBILARAN CITY, Bohol — President Duterte will be the special guest of the miting de avance or final campaign rally of Bohol gubernatorial candidate Leoncio Evasco Jr.

The country’s top official is expected to arrive in Garcia Hernandez town at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, May 8.

It will the first time the President attends a rally organized by Evasco, a member of Hugpong ng Pagbabago that was organized by presidential daughter and Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio.

Evasco, 74, was a three-term mayor of Maribojoc town before he became the campaign manager of President Duterte. He was later appointed Cabinet secretary.

Evasco’s opponent, former Agriculture Secretary, and outgoing Bohol 3rd district Rep. Arthur Yap, is a member of Duterte’s political party, Partido Demokratiko Pilipino–Lakas ng Bayan (PDP–Laban).

Garcia Hernandez is one of the 19 towns of Bohol’s 3rd district, a bailiwick of Yap.

Expected to join the rally were former Special Assistant to the President Bong Go and Senator JV Ejercito.

Last Nov. 27, 2018, Duterte, in a speech, said he supported the candidacy of Evasco even if the latter’s opponent is a member of PDP–Laban.
