PNP to deploy 143,000 officers for May 13 polls

MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine National Police (PNP) said Tuesday it will deploy a total of 143,000 police officers nationwide on May 13 to ensure the security of the public during the midterm polls.

PNP spokesman Col. Bernard Banac said in a press briefing at Camp Crame that the PNP is now fully ready to enforce security measures for the elections.

“Handang-handa na po ang Philippine National Police at ang AFP (Armed Forces of the Philippines) po natin. Ang kabuuan ay 143,000 na mga PNP personnel ang idedeploy sa buong bansa,” he said.

(The Philippine National Police and the AFP are now fully ready for the elections. Overall, the PNP will deploy 143,000 personnel to different parts of the country.)

Banac said the PNP also continues to intensify its enforcement of the election gun ban and checkpoints.

He said the AFP and the PNP will conduct on May 7 an official send-off ceremony for troops who will serve in the elections at Camp Aguinaldo. /ee
