Magnitude 4.7 earthquake rocks Davao Oriental town
MANILA, Philippines – A magnitude 4.7 earthquake rocked Banganga, Davao Oriental oat 11:43a.m. Wednesday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported.
The earthquake’s epicenter was traced 63 kilometers northeast of Banganga and is of tectonic origin.
Philvolcs added that the quake, with a depth of 11 kilometers, was felt at instrumental intensity I in Bislig City, Surigao del Sur.
Another earthquake, recorded at magnitude 4.5, also occurred in Sarangani town of Davao Occidental just minutes earlier, or at 11:28 a.m. but it has no known intensity, the Phivolcs said.
It was recorded 374 kilometers southeast of Sarangani at a depth of 270 kilometers.
Sarangani Mayor Virgie Cawa said that while the tremor was not felt in her town and no aftershock was expected, she still asked the residents to be cautious. With a report from Orlando Dinoy, Inquirer Mindanao
