PNP: Drowning, vehicular accident top recorded deaths in April

MANILA, Philippines — Twenty-three deaths were recorded from April 5 to 16 due to drowning and vehicular incidents, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said Wednesday.

Of the number, 18 were drowning incidents, four were vehicular accidents and one was due to a shooting incident.

PNP chief Gen. Oscar Albayalde reminded citizens to be cautious on drinking alcohol while visiting beaches as this would impair ones ability to swim.

“Mag-ingat po tayo lalong lalo na po yung mga mahilig uminom at matapos ay pupunta sa tubig. Mag-ingat po tayo. ‘Pag tayo po ay nakainom, wag na po tayo maligo sa dagat,” Albayalde said in an ambush interview at Araneta Cubao Bus Terminal in Quezon City.

Albayalde also asked the public to check their vehicles when leaving their homes for the Holy Week break.

“Yung mga bumabyahe, I think it’s all but proper na tignan muna natin yung sasakyan natin. I-check natin. May tinatawag tayong BLOWBAGETS,” he said.

Albayalde was referring to PNP’s advice to public to check their vehicles for BLOWBAGETS, which stands for battery, lights, oil, water, brakes, air, gas, engine, tools and self.

This will allow safe and comfortable ride for those who will travel to tourists spots or their respective provinces during the Lenten season. /jpv
