MANILA, Philippines — Administration-backed senatorial bet and Ilocos Norte Gov. Imee Marcos is “responsible enough” to address the issues hounding her school records, reelectionist Senator Cynthia Villar said Thursday.
“I never asked her about that. I think she will be responsible enough to do what she has to do,” Villar said during an interview with ANC Headstart.
Villar and Marcos are both members of the Nacionalista Party and are running for Senate seats under the Hugpong ng Pagbabago (HNP) banner.
Villar said it was her “policy” not to interfere with other people’s personal lives.
“I don’t discuss with people their personal ano kasi you don’t want them explaining to you. Why will she explain to me? Hindi ako ganon e,” she said.
“In fact, in my political life, I don’t interfere with other people, I just say what is my advocacy, what is my program, what I have done, what I intend to do. But I never talk of other people talaga. That’s my policy,” she added.
When asked if she will not be giving Marcos any advice regarding the issue on her school records, Villar said, “No, I don’t. Kasi mas magaling pa siya sa’kin in politics kasi mas experienced sila in national politics than me. I just came in maybe a decade ago but they have been in politics for so long.”
Marcos claimed that she has a college degree from Princeton University and a law degree from the University of the Philippines (UP).
The two prominent universities, however, issued separate statements denying that the Marcos had graduated from their respective institutions. /muf
