Boys show that ‘friendship is real’ in viral Facebook post

MANILA, Philippines — Two boys displayed an inspiring act of friendship when they came to the rescue of their best friend whose parents could not make it to their recognition day.

In a viral Facebook post, Albert Egot Jr. shared the emotional experience as he witnessed how his son Lance and his best friends Nico and Arce prove that “friendship is real.”

“NAIYAK ako ng bahagya. Friendship is real. I heard my son Lance Seigfred (in long sleeves) telling his bestfriend in white ‘Arce, mag pray tayo na tawagin ka, Lord tagai (bigyan nyo ng) award akong friend lord,’” wrote Egot.

Egot added that when the teacher finally called his son’s best friend for the “Best in Attendance” award, the boy’s parents were not around.

“So his bff Nico and Lance came to rescue their best friend and pinned the award with joy. Then, naluha ako. So inspiring. Hope they would see this post when they grow up,” he added.

Egot said he turned emotional as he remembered having the same experience when he graduated in college.

“My relatives were still on their way from bukid (farm). Rumampa na kami (We started to march). I was there escortless. The ceremony started. The parents were instructed to transfer the tassel from right to left while standing,” he recalled.

Standing alone, a friend’s father saw him in tears and offered him to do the tassel ceremony.

With this experience, Egot said that people should learn “to treasure people who will cheer us up.”

“We need people who believe in us — like Nico and Lance.”  /muf
