3 dead, 8 hurt in Quezon road accidents
LUCENA CITY — Three people were killed while eight others were injured in two separate road accidents in Quezon province, police said Monday.
Report from Quezon police said a Mitsubishi Canter closed van being driven by Lydio Bautista, overtook a vehicle ahead but accidentally side-swept Legaspi St. Jude passenger bus coming from the opposite direction of the Maharlika Highway in Barangay (village) Marilag around 11:45 p.m.
Bautista died on the spot due to injuries while van passenger Jeowyne Millamina Magallon; bus driver Domingo Pizania and his passengers Vicky Clerigo, Carmen Gariando, Borabo Baltazar, Rolando Ilaya, and John Mark Ilaya were all wounded. All were taken to Magsaysay Memorial Hospital in nearby Lopez town for medical treatment.
In Tagkawayan, police report said Indian businessman Ripandeep Seng Maan, 28, was driving his motorcycle through Quirino Highway when he was accidentally hit by a Manila-bound Raymond passenger bus in Barangay Poblacion around 7;30 p.m.
The victim died while being taken to Ma. Lourdes Eleazar Memorial District Hospital.
Report said the victim occupied the opposite lane that caused the accident.

Article continues after this advertisementEarlier, motorcyclist Marlon Mercado, was also killed after his vehicle was accidentally bumped by a Toyota Fortuner also along Quirino Highway in Barangay Sta. Monica around 9:30 a.m. Mercado died while on the way to the hospital.
His back-rider, Mervin Mercado, who was seriously injured, was transferred to another hospital.
Report said the driver of Toyota Fortuner identified as Emiliano Bonoso occupied the opposite lane that led to the collision.
Bonoso was also temporarily detained by police. /kga
