Abra village chief linked to gunrunning group arrested

MANILA, Philippines — A village chief in Abra who was tagged as a member of the Jeremy Criminal Group involved in gun-for-hire and gunrunning activities was arrested by the police in the municipality of Bangued on Tuesday.

Armed with an arrest warrant, elements of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) and the Bangued Municipal Police Station arrested Robert Beljamin Bio, chief of Barangay Tablac, at around 5:40 p.m.

According to CIDG on Thursday, the warrant was based on his alleged violation of the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act.

The CIDG said the suspect is allegedly a new member of the group operating in Abra and nearby provinces.
