Average price of shabu in Metro Manila now P4,000 per gram – PDEA

MANILA, Philippines — The average price of shabu (crystal meth) has increased to P4,000 per gram in Metro Manila, the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) said Friday night.

“Medyo magmamahal na naman siguro ang shabu ngayon. It is going up actually

prices of shabu now in NCR (National Capital Region) at P4,000 per gram,” PDEA Director General Aaron Aquino said in a press briefing.

He made the announcement after PDEA and Bureau of Customs seized 276 kilograms or P1.8 billion worth of shabu at the Manila International Container Port (MICP).

According to PDEA Spokesperson Derrick Carreon, the prices have been “fluctuating” based on the supply and demand of shabu.

“Bumabalik sa mataas na (average) price, fluctuating based on supply and demand of shabu,” Carreon told INQUIRER.net in a phone interview on Saturday.

“There is a constriction of supply due to bulk confiscations of shabu just like the recent ones in Ayala Alabang and the MICP. The price will tend to increase because the supply was constricted and there is demand for shabu,” he added.

Previously, the average price of the illegal drug was from P1,200 per gram to P3,500 per gram. /muf
