Palace condoles with family of MILF’s Jaafar
MANILA, Philippines—Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) vice chair Ghazali Jaafar was a “warrior of peace.”
Malacañang said this as it extended its condolences to the bereaved family of Jaafar, who died early Wednesday after a long bout with a cardiovascular disease.
“The Palace takes this opportunity to send our heartfelt condolences to the family members and friends of Mr. Jaafar. He has fought many battles for peace and may Allah grant him a place in Jannah (Paradise),” Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo said in a statement.
Jaafar, whose real name is Salih Abo, was the head of the now-defunct Bangsamoro Transition Commission (BTC) that drafted the charter of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).
Before his demise, the 75-year-old Jaafar was appointed by President Duterte as a member of the Bangsamoro Transition Authority (BTA), a body now overseeing BARMM’s gradual takeover of the regional government. /jpv
