MANILA, Philippines — A policeman facing estafa case was arrested by joint operatives of the Counter-Intelligence Task Force (CITF) and Philippine National Police Intelligence Group (PNP-IG) on Saturday morning.
CITF police officer Supt. Romeo Caramat Jr. identified the suspect as Police Officer 2 Edgar Santos.
Police arrested Santos while he was on duty as roving patrol officer at the Eastern Police District (EPD) at about 1:30 a.m.
Santos’ arrest stemmed from a warrant issued on Jan. 28, 2019, by Manila Trial Court Presiding Judge Don Ace Marlano, of Branch 42, for the policeman’s outstanding estafa case.
According to the EPD, Santos’ estafa case is in connection with one million vehicle business franchise.
“Likewise, the arrest is by virtue of a warrant not an entrapment operation,” read the statement from EPD.
Santos is one of the subjects in a foiled entrapment operation conducted by CITF in Marikina City on Dec. 10, 2018, after he allegedly extorted P100,000 from a certain Mrs. Rosana Lozada.
Administrative and criminal cases were filed against Santos on Jan. 3, 2019, at the Department of Justice (DOJ) for robbery and extortion. The case is still pending at the DOJ for preliminary investigation.
Santos is currently under the custody of the CITF. /jpv
