Robbery hold-up suspect nabbed in Marikina City

MANILA, Philippines — A robbery hold-up suspect was arrested on Tuesday shortly after snatching the cellphone of a teenager in Marikina City, police reported Wednesday.

The police report identified the suspect as Dennis Gilhang, 34 years old.

Initial investigation revealed that the 17-year-old victim was waiting for a ride to school at Bayan-Bayanan Avenue in Barangay Concepcion Uno when Gilhang, who was aboard his bicycle, grabbed the victim’s cellphone.

The victim initially refused to hand over her cellphone, but Gilhang pulled out a box cutter and threatened to slash the victim, which prompted her to surrender her phone.

Marikina police officers arrested Gilhang shortly after.

Gilhang is now detained at the Marikina City Police station for inquest proceedings. /muf
