MANILA, Philippines – Typhoon “Wutip” has maintained its strength as it slowly moved closer to the country, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said Monday.
In Pagasa’s 11 a.m. advisory, “Wutip” was last spotted at 1,740 kilometers (km) east of Southern Luzon and outside Philippine area of responsibility) at 10 a.m.
It had a maximum sustained wind speed of 185 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and gusts of up to 225 kph.
The weather bureau earlier said that the typhoon would likely enter PAR on Wednesday or Thursday.
