Mandaluyong cancels classes on Feb. 9 for 74th Liberation Day, 25th cityhood festivity

MANILA, Philippines — Mandaluyong City government on Wednesday announced the cancellation of classes on Feb. 9 (Saturday) to pave the way for the city’s 74th Liberation Day and 25th cityhood celebration.

All levels in private and public schools were declared suspended for the celebration, according to the city’s advisory.

At the onset of World War II, Japanese Imperial Forces occupied Mandaluyong and in 1945, American Liberation Forces helped liberate the municipality.

In 1994, President Fidel V. Ramos signed Republic Act No. 7675 which marked the conversion of Mandaluyong from municipality to a highly urbanized city.
