EU envoy condoles with kin of Jolo blast victims

MANILA, Philippines — The European Union (EU) Delegation to the Philippines expressed its condolences and sympathies to the families of those killed and wounded in the twin blasts in Jolo, Sulu Sunday morning.

“I express my solidarity with the Filipino people during these trying times,” EU Ambassador to the Philippines Franz Jessen said in a statement.

He said that Filipinos “have always been resilient, steadfast, and collaborative and I am certain that these values will see them through in this sad situation.”

The deadly twin explosions in Jolo, Sulu claimed the lives of at least 27 people and injured at least 77 others.

Among those who died were seven government troops and 20 civilians, while 16 government forces and 61 civilians were injured due to the explosion.

The blast has earned strong condemnation from the Malacañang, the Philippine National Police, the Armed Forces of the Philippines, and lawmakers, among others.

Law enforcers vowed to probe the incident and identify the perpetrators of the blast. /je
