WATCH: SM MOA’s iconic globe display honors founder Henry Sy Sr.

MANILA, Philippines — The iconic globe of SM Mall of Asia in Pasay City radiated with colorful lights to honor its founder Henry Sy Sr.

The display says,“Thank You, Tatang,” referring to Sy, as he was fondly called by many.

A video was also posted in SM Supermalls’ official Twitter account as tribute to Sy’s legacy.

In 1946, Sy opened a small shoe store in Manila that eventually grew into a retail empire with 72 shopping malls that serves 3.5 million customers a day.

On January 19, Sy passed away “peacefully in his sleep” at 94 years old.
