Mawin’s Kitchen, Alberto’s win MKBC openers

DEFENDING champion Mawin’s Kitchen of Maia Adriatico and Sherwin Lequit and Alberto’s Knights of Robert Chua beat separate foes Sunday night at the start of the Mawin’s Kitchen Basketball Cup (MKBC)-20ll Second Conference tournament at the Vicente Sotto Memorial gym.

Powerhouse Mawin’s Kitchen trounced Emilmich of Emily Badon, 83-75 while Alberto’s Knights crushed Club Monday, 87-77.

Mawin’s posted single-digit leads from start to finish to seal the eight-point victory.

Mark Galo and Jaymar Canoy powered Mawin’s with 20 and 16 points, respectively while Mat Vallejo and Frank Lastimoso combined for 24 markers.

Beboy Potencioso and Niño Iso paced Emilmich with 18 and 17 points, respectively.

Earlier, Alberto’s Knights and Club Monday got off to a bruising battle in the opening period that ended in a 15-all tie. But the taller Knights outscored Club Monday, 27-22 to lead 42-37 at the half then expanded its lead to 14 points, 66-52, entering the final canto.

Hans Grogard scattered a game-high 20 points to lead the Knights while Alain Lim and Erik Machado paced Club Monday with 17 points apiece.

The event is made possible through the efforts of Sherwin Lequit, founder and president of MKBC basketball tournament which has 14 teams competing.
