Elderly man killed, 8 injured in Iloilo City road mishap
MANILA, Philippines—An elderly man was killed while eight others were injured when a jeepney rammed into trees in Iloilo City Wednesday, police said Thursday.
The jeepney, which was carrying nine passengers, was being driven by 28-year-old Ronald Celestial when it lost control and rammed into trees and a bamboo fence while trying to avoid hitting another vehicle along the national highway in Buyuan village, Tigbauan town at around 1:30 p.m., said Police Officer 3 Gil Joel Tardaguela of the Iloilo City police.
Raymundo Payda, 77, was killed while eight other passengers were injured, Tardaguela said.
The injured passengers were rushed to a hospital in Guimbal town, he said. Celestial, who has been under the custody of police, was also brought to the hospital.
The jeepney was on its way to Igbaras town when the accident occurred, said Tardaguela.
