DID YOU KNOW: 900,000 births out of wedlock in 2017

According to the Philippine Statistics Authority, 907,061 registered live births in 2017 were born out of wedlock.

This was 53.3 percent of the total 1.7 million live births in the country that year.

The three regions that recorded the highest number of children born to unwed mothers in 2017 by usual residence of mothers were Calabarzon (144,622 children), National Capital Region (141,206 children) and Central Luzon (100,956 children). —Marielle Medina, Inquirer Research
