4 family members perish in Marikina City fire 

MANILA, Philippines — Four people were killed in a fire that broke out in Marikina City on Wednesday morning, city fire department said.

According to Senior Fire Officer II Paolo Garado, the victims were identified as Police Officer 3 Romas Sumaid, Glendolly Rose Sumaid, six-year-old Kaizer Lee Sumaid and three-year-old Faye Sumaid.

The fire broke out at about 2:47 a.m. at a residential area in Col. Divino Street, Barangay Sto. Niño, Marikina City. The blaze, which only reached first alarm, was extinguished after more than 30 minutes.

Aside from the casualties, four houses were razed to the ground while another house was partially damaged from the incident.

In an initial investigation, San Juan City Police said the fire started at Cherry’s Signature Burger Store, which affected the adjacent residential houses. However, authorities have yet to determine the cause of fire. /jpv
