Cops kill 2 suspected hitmen in Ilocos Sur
BAGUIO CITY — Two suspected members of a gun-for-hire group were killed in a clash with policemen on Tuesday night (Jan. 8) in Cabugao town, Ilocos Sur.
Tipped off by the Police Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) that contract killers from the Benzon-Alviento group have been spotted there, the police sent out a patrol car which drew the attention of two men at a gasoline station in Rizal village, said Senior Insp. Pol Areola, Cabugao police chief.
The two men drove off in a motorcycle towards Pug-os village. When the police tailed them, the two men allegedly opened fire and were killed in the ensuing gunfight at 9:45 p.m., Areola said.
An inmate identification card from the Bureau of Corrections under the name “Rodrigo Urmin Jr.” was found at the crime scene.
The police recovered a black sling bag containing a handgun, a homemade revolver, ammunition, and a teargas canister.
A sketch of an individual, believed to be the murder target, was also found in the bag, police said./lzb
