MANILA, Philippines — Malacañang on Saturday asked local government units in Mindanao to closely monitor their areas and take precautionary measures after a 7.2-magnitude quake struck off Davao Oriental.
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said the tremor, which was initially reported as a 7.1-magnitude earthquake, was plotted 162 kilometers southeast of Governor Generoso in Davao Oriental with a depth of 49 km.
Philvocs has also issued a Tsunami warning to 11 nearby provinces.

“The Palace urges local government units in Mindanao to closely monitor their respective areas of jurisdiction and take precautionary measures, particularly those in the coastal areas, in view of possible aftershocks, tsunami or both,” Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo said in a statement.
“We ask everyone to be alert and cooperate as we pray for the safety of all,” he added. /ee
