3 children hurt by sparklers in Cavite, illegal firecrackers seized in Laguna

SAN PEDRO CITY, Philippines – Three children were hurt after they accidentally lit up a pile of sparklers in General Mariano Alvarez, Cavite, while authorities seized P10,000-worth of illegal firecrackers in Alaminos, Laguna.

Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Quezon) police spokesperson Supt. Chitadel Gaoiran idenified the victims as Christian, 3; Chris Jho Jr., 3; and Peter Paul Jr., 5, all surnamed Egranes.

She said the incident happened Thursday morning as the children, all from Barangay Poblacion 5, were playing. She said one of them lit up a sparkler and dropped it on the rest of the fireworks.

Joy Ericka Egranes, aunt of the victims then rushed the children to a hospital for treatment of minor burns.

Meanwhile in Alaminos, police seized illegal firecrackers, among them a “sawa” and sky rockets, during an inspection around 9 p.m. Thursday in Barangay San Agustin.

The sellers will be charged for selling and distributing illegal firecrackers, Gaoiran said. /muf
