3.8-quake jolts Leyte on Christmas morning

MANILA, Philippines — A magnitude 3.8 earthquake greeted residents of Leyte morning of Christmas Day, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said Tuesday

According to Phivolcs, the quake struck at 5:32 a.m., and traced its epicenter at 8 kilometers northwest of Calubian, Leyte. The said town also felt an Intensity III tremor.

Aside from Calubian, the town of Naval in Biliran also felt the same intensity following the quake.

The cities of Bogo and Ormoco, meanwhile, felt an Intensity I quake, the report added.

Despite this, Phivolcs noted that no damage and aftershocks could be expected from quake that had a depth of focus of 6 km and tectonic origin. /je
