Magnitude 4.9 earthquake hits Negros Oriental
MANILA, Philippines — The province of Negros Oriental was rocked by a magnitude 4.9 earthquake, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.
In an updated report released early Tuesday, the agency said that the quake struck 10 kilometers (km) southwest of Tayasan, Negro Oriental at 10:43 p.m. of Monday.
The strong quake then resulted to an Intensity IV tremor in the towns of Ayungon and Manjuyod, Negros Oriental.
An Intensity III quake, meanwhile, was felt by residents of La Libertad and Tayasan of the same province.
The Guihulngan City felt and Intensity II tremor while the cities of Bago, Cebu, La Cariota and the town of Sibulan in Negros Oriental felt an Intensity I ground shake.
Despite the high magnitude and a number of intensities recorded, Phivolcs said that no damage and aftershocks could be expected.
